Every March, the DET advises the Minister of Immigration and Border Protection on the composition of the MLTSSL.

This list is used to select potential migrants who qualify for various qualified immigration visas at the Federal Level.

  • Occupations affected by a skills shortage in Australia are identified
  • Economic and political consultation to check whether Australia would benefit from the occupation on the MLTSSL

The MLTSSL is updated twice a year

  • January MLTSSL updates happen on the 3rd January

The MLTSSL is updated twice a year

  • January MLTSSL updates happen on the 3rd January
  • July MLTSSL updates happen on 1st July

What happens if my occupation is removed from the MLTSSL during my application

  • Applications that have already received an Invitation to Apply will continue as normal
  • Applications that are already being processed after receiving an invitation to apply will continue as normal
  • Applications at EOI stage will only be eligible for draws against the list that the occupation is now on i.e. STSOL

      1. Check the STSOL List for your occupation
      2. Wait until the occupation is added back to the list
      3. Explore other visa routes such as Studying in Australia
